Frequently asked questions
How much does a home elevator cost in Florida?
Most home elevators cost $35,000 to $60,000 installed, with a national average near $50,000, according to Fixr. Pneumatic models start around $35,000 and a two-storey pneumatic install runs $38,000 to $55,000.
How much does a stair lift cost?
Fixr's national average for a standard stair lift is $4,000, with most between $3,000 and $5,000. Curved stair lifts cost $8,000 to $20,000 because the rail is made for your stairs.
Will Medicare help pay for a stair lift?
Usually not. CMS says home modifications are not covered by Medicare, and stair lifts are not on Medicare's list of covered durable medical equipment. Veterans' grants, Florida Medicaid long-term care and medical expense tax rules may help some families.
Do I need a permit for a home elevator or stair lift in Florida?
Not from the state: Florida's elevator law does not cover elevators, chairlifts or wheelchair lifts inside private homes. Your city or county may still require building or electrical permits, and we include the permit plan in every quote.
What can seniors do instead of a stair lift?
Options include moving the bedroom downstairs, a through-floor lift, a home elevator or, for a few steps, a ramp or porch lift. Our guide to choosing between an elevator, a stair lift or moving walks through each.
What happens to a home lift in a hurricane?
Plan for power cuts and flooding. FEMA says elevators that could descend below the base flood elevation need a float switch or an equivalent system, and battery-powered stair lifts keep working for a number of trips when the power is out.
